Fairmont Vancouver Airport

Some hotels are quite near an airport. Many offer convenient shuttle buses, while others are easily accessible via public transport or short taxi journeys. Then there’s the Fairmont Vancouver Airport, which is not just near the airport; it’s literally at the airport. Located right above the US departures section, the Fairmont’s lobby is no more than two minutes from the baggage carousels.

The Fairmont Vancouver airport is not, however, merely conveniently located. It is a fully soundproofed luxury hotel, complete with an award winning, state of the art health club and spa, a first class restaurant and unbeatable meeting and business facilities.

The Fairmont was opened in October, 1999, and offers 392 spacious rooms, all of which offer beautiful runway, mountain or ocean views through floor to ceiling windows, but without the noise often associated with airport hotels. In addition, the Fairmont is possibly the most hi-tech hotel anywhere, and that’s not an idle boast. It is the first hotel in the world to offer satellite check-in kiosks, and the first hotel in Canada to install a touch screen control system called InnComm in each of its rooms. Guests can control everything from lighting to room temperature, to the television, and even electronic “Do Not Disturb” signs at the touch of a panel. Combine all this with the fact that the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel was recently named the “Best Airport Hotel in North America” at the World Airport Awards, and you have a combination that’s hard to beat, whether travelling for business or pleasure.

About the area

                                Outside View

Vancouver is a thriving and beautiful city with attractions ranging from major league sports to a pristine environment with mountain and ocean on either side. The Fairmont staff is delighted to guide guests in the right direction, whatever their interest. They can advise on everything from the best places to shop and eat, to how to book a whale watching tour. Just some of the activities that Fairmont staff can organize for their guests include river rafting, skiing, snowmobiling, golf, bicycle tours, air tours, dog sledding, deep sea fishing, canoeing or kayaking, nature tours, and food and wine tasting tours.

In addition, Vancouver and nearby Richmond are home to some perpetually popular tourist attractions. The Britannia Shipyard and the London Heritage Farms offer living, true-life glimpses into days gone by.  The speed skating oval used for the 2010 Olympic Games is now a major sports attraction, open to the public and only a few minutes from the Fairmont Hotel. Whatever takes your fancy, the staff of the Fairmont will be able to tell you what’s on offer locally, and the best ways to get there.

This temperature ensures no chlorine bleach is required. Special air filters are also installed in these rooms, to leave the air sparkling clean and allergen free.

The Coast Vancouver Airport Hotel is delighted to offer guests two distinct choices when deciding what to eat.  The White Spot Restaurant is an absolute favourite, not just for hotel visitors, but also for locals.   White Spot has an extensive full-service menu, as well as a very tasty but (don’t tell the kids!) healthy children’s menu.  The relaxed, informal atmosphere is complimented by friendly and efficient staff, as well as food cooked just the way you like it, every time.  The White Spot Restaurant is open from 6:30 in the morning, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, and remains open till 10 p.m., Sunday to Thursday, and to 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

For those who want to take in the big game on a large screen TV while enjoying a cold beer, glass of wine or cocktail, as well as tasty bar snacks, call in to Hudson’s Landing Pub, where all those delights are on offer, seven days a week.  With comfortable seating and a fantastic atmosphere, Hudson’s is a great place to kick back, relax, and enjoy life.

Sandman Signature Hotel

Three words both describe and embody The Sandman Signature Hotel and Resort at Vancouver Airport…Elegance…Relaxation…Comfort.  These words are the standard by which the hotel measures everything on offer to its guests, from the extra large guest rooms, to the exceptional services from the friendly and dedicated staff, to the truly amazing food served in its restaurants.  The Sandman is where both business and leisure travelers go to indulge themselves in the finest that the hotel industry has to offer.

The Accommodations

Outside View of Hotel

The Sandman Signature Hotel and Resort Vancouver Airport is part of the Sandman Signature Resort chain.  Each Sandman hotel strives to provide its guests with the ultimate in creature comforts from the moment they enter the gleaming, modern, stylish lobby, till the moment they check out.  The 210-room Sandman Vancouver Airport fits easily into this philosophy.  With guest rooms the size of what some hotels would call suites, and suites the size of what some people would call a nice apartment, it’s safe to say that guests of the Sandman won’t be feeling cramped or confined in their rooms.   Take, as one example, the “standard” Signature Premiere Room.  “Standard” seems downright inappropriate, because this room comes with two Queen beds and a minimum of 335 square feet of smoke-free living space.  Signature Rooms also offer a seating area with an arm chair, ottoman and large colour television, while outside there’s a private balcony with table and chairs, where guests can enjoy panoramic views and breathtaking sunsets.  Standard?  We don’t think so!

Each of the Sandman Resort Hotel’s guest rooms is styled and furnished to the highest level of sophistication, elegance and comfort.  As well as pillow-top mattresses and premium bedding, all rooms also offer the following features and amenities:

Guestrooms

  • Individual air conditioning and heating controls
  • Complimentary tea and coffee making facilities
  • Three-piece bathroom suites, with separate bath and shower
  • Complimentary designer toiletries pack
  • Floor to ceiling windows—all the better for enjoying those views
  • Marble counter tops
  • Complimentary high speed wireless internet access
  • Large work desk with data port, comfortable ergonomic chair and desk lamp
  • Electronic in-room safe
  • Telephone with voice mail service
  • Hair dryer, iron and ironing board
  • YVR check-in kiosk
  • Complimentary access to the Sandman fitness centre, indoor heated pool and whirlpool
  • Complimentary shuttle to River Rock Casino

In addition to all the above, King Suites offer an amazing 650 square feet of living space, a 32-inch colour TV, a King bed, plus sofa bed and single bed, as well as a kithcenette with small fridge, microwave, and dishwasher.

For very special occasions, or if you just really want to spoil yourself, consider one of the Sandman Resort’s Penthouse Suites.  Starting at 670 square feet, the facilities on offer are positively regal.  They include a five-piece bathroom suite with Jacuzzi Soaker tub, no less than two balconies with the best views the hotel has to offer, separate living, sleeping and dining areas.  The living room contains a plush sofa, chaise lounge and ottoman, while the full kitchen is fitted with large fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and stove-top oven.

Keeping busy

Dinning Area

The Sandman Resort Hotel Vancouver Airport has a range of facilities befitting a country club.  All visitors have access to the indoor heated swimming pool and whirlpool, and the kids will go crazy for the 225-foot long water slide.  Outdoors, there are no less than two pools (seasonal use).  Besides the hotel’s fitness facility, guests can also visit the Steve Nash Sports Club (fee applies), or the seriously active can take to the indoor tennis courts (fee applies).  Combined with the dazzling array of shopping centres, malls, sporting venues and tourist attractions nearby, everyone can be as busy as they choose to be.

Did anyone mention food?

Cucumber Cafe

After all the activity, you’re bound to have worked up an appetite.  Once again, the Sandman Resort Hotel has ensured that its guests are spoiled for choice.  Family favourites are available literally 24 hours per day.  That old reliable, Denny’s Restaurant, is on site and open round the clock.  From a stack of buttermilk pancakes with warm maple syrup for breakfast, to burgers, steaks and seafood for dinner, all tastes and appetites are catered for at Denny’s.  But the offerings don’t stop there.  At the Sandman, guests can also choose meals, snacks, coffee, drinks and other forms of refreshment from such exceptional eateries as Chop Steakhouse and Bar, the Shark Club Sports Bar and Grill or the Java Fresh Coffee Kiosk.  And of course, because that’s just the way they are, the Sandman also invites guests to just relax in their rooms, if they so choose, and take advantage of the extensive room service menu on offer, available 24 hours per day.
